A Woman and a Cow

Al-Ahmadiyya, June 1979 Issue (Vol. 1, No. 6, p. 12)

Once upon a time there was a woman who had a beautiful cow. The woman used to spin yarn and the cow used to give milk. The woman kept spinning the yarn from morning till evening and when she had finished her job she would undo whatever she had done.

The cow used to observe her. She gave milk and the pail was full every evening.

The woman was very proud of her cow who gave so much milk and of such a high quality. She benefited a lot by using and by selling the milk.

The cow was surprised at what the woman did every day.

One evening when the woman had broken the yarn into flimsy pieces she went to collect the pail filled with milk. The cow kicked it over.

Says the Quran:

وَ لَا تَکُوۡنُوۡا کَالَّتِیۡ نَقَضَتۡ غَزۡلَہَا مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ قُوَّۃٍ اَنۡکَاثًا ؕ

“And be not like her who unravels her yarn, disintegrating it into pieces, after she has spun it strongly” (The Holy Quran, 16:92).
