Message to the Seventh Ahmadiyya Convention — August 21–29, 1975

by Maulana Sadr-ud-Din, President of the Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat-e-Islam, Lahore (Pakistan)

The Light (Pakistan), 16th February 1976 Issue (Vol. 56, Nos. 6–7, pp. 11)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

“And when Abraham and Ishmael raised the foundation of the House; Our Lord, accept from us: surely Thou art the Hearing, the Knowing. Our Lord, and make us both submissive to Thee, and (raise) from our offspring, a nation submissive to Thee, and show us ways of devotion and turn to us (mercifully); surely Thou art the Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful”. (The Holy Quran, 2:127, 128)

I extend my hearty felicitations to the sponsors of the Ahmadiyya Convention which is the first of its kind to be held in London. The opening of our London Mission House will also synchronise with this great Religious Moot. After the shifting of control over the Woking Muslim Mission elsewhere, the Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat-i-lslam Lahore, by the grace of God, has purchased a building where the London Mission House will resume the thread of our time-honoured missionary activities. The yeoman’s efforts of our members to promote the Convention will add a lustrous dimension to our Mission House.

The heads of our Foreign Missions and a five-men delegation from Pakistan, led by Dr. Saeed Ahmad Khan, will participate in the Convention. I pray that Allah may illumine their path and vouchsafe them strength to make the Convention a unique success. It is my sincere wish that our religious assembly may become a harbinger of redoubled efforts for the triumph of Islam.

It redounds to the credit of the sponsors of the Convention that they have also planned to convene a parliament of Faiths during the Convention. The theme of discussion will be:

The Message of My Religion and the Modern Man.

This, I feel, has come in the fullness of time because the world at the moment, is experiencing deep spiritual unrest and distressing dissatisfaction with the obsolete creeds. It needs no telling that only such Religion can survive as will meet the challenge of Science and will rid humanity of the moral chaos. The worldwide mental unhappiness is due to the neurosis of emptiness which has turned the so-called civilized world into a boiling cauldron of warring Godless ideologies. It is due to the spiritual vacuum that the Mechanics of enmity have superseded and eclipsed the ethics of amity. Manmade ideologies have been tried and found wanting. It is my firm belief that Islam and Islam alone can rectify the moral imbalance. I derive this belief from the Holy Prophet’s prophecy that the Victory of Islam is round the corner — and that the West shall witness the Dawn of Islam. I feel that disillusioned with their outmoded and outdated beliefs that the world outside the pale of Islam is experiencing an inward urge towards Islam. The new consciousness is growing quietly in the minds and hearts of the civilized people.

I wish God-speed to the Convention and invoke Divine Blessings for its executers. May Allah enable them to lay the healing balm of Islam on the lacerated heart of mankind!
