Chapter 31: Luqman — Luqman (Revealed at Makkah: 4 sections, 34 verses)
Section 1 (Verses 31:1–31:11): Believers will be Successful
Translation:
بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِ
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
الٓـمّٓ ۚ﴿۱﴾
31:1 I, Allah, am the Best Knower.1
تِلۡکَ اٰیٰتُ الۡکِتٰبِ الۡحَکِیۡمِ ۙ﴿۲﴾
31:2 These are the verses of the Book of Wisdom —
ہُدًی وَّ رَحۡمَۃً لِّلۡمُحۡسِنِیۡنَ ۙ﴿۳﴾
31:3 a guidance and a mercy for the doers of good,
الَّذِیۡنَ یُقِیۡمُوۡنَ الصَّلٰوۃَ وَ یُؤۡتُوۡنَ الزَّکٰوۃَ وَ ہُمۡ بِالۡاٰخِرَۃِ ہُمۡ یُوۡقِنُوۡنَ ؕ﴿۴﴾
31:4 who keep up prayer and give the due charity and who are certain of the Hereafter.
اُولٰٓئِکَ عَلٰی ہُدًی مِّنۡ رَّبِّہِمۡ وَ اُولٰٓئِکَ ہُمُ الۡمُفۡلِحُوۡنَ ﴿۵﴾
31:5 These are on a guidance from their Lord, and these are they who are successful.
وَ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَنۡ یَّشۡتَرِیۡ لَہۡوَ الۡحَدِیۡثِ لِیُضِلَّ عَنۡ سَبِیۡلِ اللّٰہِ بِغَیۡرِ عِلۡمٍ ٭ۖ وَّ یَتَّخِذَہَا ہُزُوًا ؕ اُولٰٓئِکَ لَہُمۡ عَذَابٌ مُّہِیۡنٌ ﴿۶﴾
31:6 And among people is he who takes, instead, frivolous discourse to lead astray from Allah’s path without knowledge, and to make it a mockery.2 For such is a humiliating punishment.
وَ اِذَا تُتۡلٰی عَلَیۡہِ اٰیٰتُنَا وَلّٰی مُسۡتَکۡبِرًا کَاَنۡ لَّمۡ یَسۡمَعۡہَا کَاَنَّ فِیۡۤ اُذُنَیۡہِ وَقۡرًا ۚ فَبَشِّرۡہُ بِعَذَابٍ اَلِیۡمٍ ﴿۷﴾
31:7 And when Our messages are recited to him, he turns back proudly, as if he had not heard them, as if there were deafness in his ears; so announce to him a painful punishment.
اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ لَہُمۡ جَنّٰتُ النَّعِیۡمِ ۙ﴿۸﴾
31:8 Those who believe and do good, for them are Gardens of bliss,
خٰلِدِیۡنَ فِیۡہَا ؕ وَعۡدَ اللّٰہِ حَقًّا ؕ وَ ہُوَ الۡعَزِیۡزُ الۡحَکِیۡمُ ﴿۹﴾
31:9 to abide therein. A promise of Allah in truth! And He is the Mighty, the Wise.
خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ بِغَیۡرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوۡنَہَا وَ اَلۡقٰی فِی الۡاَرۡضِ رَوَاسِیَ اَنۡ تَمِیۡدَ بِکُمۡ وَ بَثَّ فِیۡہَا مِنۡ کُلِّ دَآبَّۃٍ ؕ وَ اَنۡزَلۡنَا مِنَ السَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَاَنۡۢبَتۡنَا فِیۡہَا مِنۡ کُلِّ زَوۡجٍ کَرِیۡمٍ ﴿۱۰﴾
31:10 He created the heavens without pillars that you can see, and cast mountains on the earth in case it should quake with you,3 and He spread on it animals of every kind. And We send down water from the clouds, then cause to grow in it (vegetation) of every noble kind.
ہٰذَا خَلۡقُ اللّٰہِ فَاَرُوۡنِیۡ مَاذَا خَلَقَ الَّذِیۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِہٖ ؕ بَلِ الظّٰلِمُوۡنَ فِیۡ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِیۡنٍ ﴿٪۱۱﴾
31:11 This is Allah’s creation; now show Me what those besides Him have created. No, the unjust are in manifest error.
