Chapter 64: At-Taghabun — The Manifestation of Losses (Revealed at Madinah: 2 sections, 18 verses)
Section 1 (Verses 64:1–64:10): Disbelievers Warned
Translation:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
64:1 Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth glorifies Allah. His is the kingdom, and His the praise; and He is Powerful over all things.
64:2 He it is Who created you, but one of you is a disbeliever and one of you is a believer. And Allah is Seer of what you do.
64:3 He created the heavens and the earth with truth, and He shaped you, then made goodly your shapes; and to Him is the destination.
64:4 He knows what is in the heavens and the earth, and He knows what you hide and what you manifest. And Allah is Knower of what is in the hearts.
64:5 Has not the story come to you of those who disbelieved before, then they tasted the evil consequences of their conduct, and they had a painful punishment?
64:6 That is because their messengers came to them with clear arguments, but they said: Shall mortals guide us? So they disbelieved and turned away, and Allah is above all need. And Allah is Self-Sufficient, Praised.
64:7 Those who disbelieve think that they will not be raised. Say: Indeed, by my Lord! you will certainly be raised; then you will certainly be informed of what you did. And that is easy to Allah.
64:8 So believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Light which We have revealed. And Allah is Aware of what you do.
64:9 The day when He will gather you for the day of Gathering, that is the day of the Manifestation of losses.1 And whoever believes in Allah and does good, He will remove from him his evil and make him enter Gardens in which rivers flow, to abide in them forever. That is the mighty achievement.2
64:10 And those who disbelieve and reject Our messages, they are the companions of the Fire, abiding in it; and evil is the destination.
Commentary:
- The day of Resurrection is called the day of Taghābun (Manifestation of losses) because the loss that a person suffers is generally hidden from his eyes in this life, and it will be manifest on the day of Judgment. ↩
- Note that he who acts righteously will have his evil removed, because a change comes over his life. There is no doubt that, when a complete transformation takes place in the life of a person, the consequences of the evil which he might have previously done are wiped out. ↩
