Instructions:
There are two forms on this page that search the Arabic and translations and commentaries of the Holy Quran by Maulana Muhammad Ali:
- Form A (Quranic Display):
Use this form to display a portion of the Holy Quran, e.g., a chapter, a particular verse or a verse range. - Form B (Quranic Search):
Use this form to search for particular words in the Holy Quran.
Form A Quranic Display:
Step 1 Quran Selection
- Chapter number:
To view a particular chapter of the Holy Quran, type its corresponding chapter number in this box. We have provided a ‘List of Quranic Chapters’ button on the search page to assist you with finding the required Chapter number corresponding to the Chapter name you may be looking for. This is a mandatory field.
Example:
Type the digit 1 to view ‘Al-Fatihah’. - Start verse:
If you want to view a specific verse, then type the chapter number in the top box and the verse number required in this box. This is an optional field.
Example:
Type the digit 1 in the top box (Chapter Number) and the digit 3 in this box (Start Verse) to view verse 3 of ‘Al-Fatihah’. - End verse:
If you want to view a verse range in a particular chapter, then type the chapter number in the top box and the number of the first verse in the verse range in the box above and the last verse of the verse range in this box. This is an optional field.
Example:
Type the digit 1 in the top box (Chapter Number) and the digit 3 in the box above (Start Verse) and digit 6 in this box (End Verse) to view verses 3 to 6 of ‘Al-Fatihah’.
Step 2 Language Options
- There are 6 language options to choose from:
- The Arabic text of the Holy Quran
- The Urdu translation, taken from:
Bayan-ul-Quran (بیان القرآن) - The English translation
(1951/2002 edition with original English) - The English translation
(2010 edition with simplified English) - The English translation and commentary
(1951/2002 edition with detailed commentary) - The English translation and commentary
(2010 edition with abridged commentary)
- The Arabic text and 2010 English translation are switched on (
) by default and by clicking on the buttons can be switched off (
).
- You can switch any language on/off based on your search requirement.
- Now click on the ‘Search’ button to display the portion of the Holy Quran required.
- By clicking on the ‘Reset’ button you can reset the entire search form and delete any previous form entries.
Form B Quranic Search:
Step 1 Text to Search

Please type your search term(s) in this box in any of the following languages: - Arabic
- Urdu
- English
- Highlight search term(s):
This option will highlight your search term(s) in the search results. It is switched on () by default and can be switched off (
) by pressing the button.
Step 2 Language Options
- Language to Search:
You have the option to select one out of the 7 language formats that can be searched:- Arabic text without vowels, e.g., typing in: محمد
Searching in this format is easier than with vowels (see below). - Arabic text with vowels, e.g., typing in: مُحَمَّدٌ
Typing in this format is more cumbersome than typing without vowels. However, this feature can be useful when researching particular term(s) that can be copy/pasted into this form after initially using ‘Form A’ to find the term(s).
If the ‘Highlight search term(s)’ option is switched on in ‘Step 1’, then the search results will show the verses in Arabic with and without vowels. The latter format will show the highlighted term(s) from your search query. - The Urdu translation, e.g., typing in: محمد
- The English translation
(1951/2002 edition with original English) - The English translation
(2010 edition with simplified English).
This option is selected by default. - The English translation and commentary
(1951/2002 edition with detailed commentary) - The English translation and commentary
(2010 edition with abridged commentary)
- Arabic text without vowels, e.g., typing in: محمد
- Languages to Display:
This part of the form gives you the option to select multiple languages you wish to see the results in:- The Arabic text and 2010 English translation are switched on (
) by default and by clicking on the buttons can be switched off (
).
- You can switch any language on/off based on your search requirement.
- The highlighted search term(s) will only show in the language you selected in the ‘Language to Search’ section and please ensure you have selected the same language in the ‘Language to Display’ section to benefit from this feature.
- The Arabic text and 2010 English translation are switched on (
- Now click on the ‘Search’ button to display the search results.
